Hooked rugs are quite valuable and due to their hooked nature require proper preservation. The rug is a classic arts and crafts hooked rug.
Traditional hooked rugs are made loop by loop, usually by hand, pulling strips of wool or fabric through a backing. Even a small rug can take hundreds of hours. There’s no shortcut if it’s done the old way.
These rugs are known as folk art, intrinsic to American culture, including but not limited to animals, landscapes, pictorial renditions of political figures, and most importantly family history, which made each rug singular
The materials used often were wool or recycled fabric
Since this is a hooked rug with enormous moth damage the following will have to be done:
This is called re-hooking:
Match wool as closely as possible (texture + color)
Hook from the back, following original direction
Keep loop height consistent

I bless the day I found Mr Jafri. As one who has collected rugs for 50 years, I both learned about their value and origins and had them beautifully cleaned and repaired.
Very beautiful rugs there, would have been a difficult decision. Only needed a rug pad this time. When we're in the market again, this is where we'll go. Pete, Delmar, NY
