Jafri Rugs specializes in professional cleaning, repair, and restoration of Turkish woven rugs, Oriental rugs, Persian rugs, antique rugs, vintage rugs, and handmade area rugs.

Turkish woven rugs require specialized care because their fibers, dyes, weaving techniques, and foundations can vary significantly from rug to rug. At Jafri Rugs, every Turkish rug is individually inspected so we can recommend the appropriate cleaning or restoration process.

Whether your rug needs routine cleaning, stain removal, fringe repair, reweaving, or extensive restoration, our experienced rug specialists provide professional care designed to preserve its beauty and structural integrity.

Turkish Woven Rug Cleaning

Dirt and dust can become deeply embedded within the weave of a handmade Turkish rug. Over time, abrasive particles can contribute to fiber wear and deterioration.

Our professional Turkish rug cleaning services can address:

  • Embedded dirt and dust
  • Food and beverage stains
  • Pet stains and odors
  • Everyday soil and grime
  • Discoloration
  • Moth-related contamination
  • Flood and water damage
  • Unpleasant odors

Before cleaning, we evaluate the rug's fibers, dyes, construction, age, and condition to determine the safest cleaning method.

Our Turkish Rug Cleaning Process

Inspection & Evaluation

Every rug begins with a detailed inspection. We look for stains, fading, loose threads, worn areas, fringe damage, unraveling, foundation problems, and other conditions that could affect cleaning.

Dust & Soil Removal

Dry soil and abrasive particles are carefully removed before washing. This helps protect the rug's fibers from additional wear during the cleaning process.

Specialized Rug Washing

Turkish woven rugs are cleaned using techniques appropriate for their individual construction and materials. Special attention is given to antique rugs, delicate fibers, and potentially unstable dyes.

Stain & Odor Treatment

Problem areas can receive specialized treatment for stains, pet accidents, odors, and other contaminants while taking the rug's materials and dyes into consideration.

Controlled Drying

After cleaning, excess moisture is removed and the rug is dried under controlled conditions. Proper drying helps reduce the risk of mildew, shrinkage, dye migration, and distortion.

Final Quality Inspection

After cleaning and drying, the rug receives a final inspection to ensure that the cleaning process has been completed properly and the rug is ready to return to your home.

Turkish Woven Rug Repair & Restoration

In addition to professional cleaning, Jafri Rugs provides Turkish rug repair and restoration for rugs affected by age, wear, pets, moths, water, and accidental damage.

Our restoration services include:

  • Turkish rug reweaving
  • Hole and tear repair
  • Foundation repair
  • Fringe repair and replacement
  • Edge binding repair
  • Moth damage repair
  • Missing pile restoration
  • Structural stabilization
  • Color restoration

Turkish Rug Reweaving

Damaged sections of a Turkish woven rug can sometimes be restored through hand reweaving. Our craftsmen carefully reconstruct damaged areas while working to match the original weave, fibers, colors, and patterns.

Reweaving can help restore both the appearance and structural integrity of rugs with holes, tears, or missing sections.

Turkish Rug Fringe Repair

Fringe is an important part of a rug's foundation. When fringe becomes worn, loose, or damaged, the underlying foundation can become vulnerable to further unraveling.

Jafri Rugs provides professional Turkish rug fringe repair and replacement, as well as edge and binding repair, to help stabilize damaged areas.

Antique Turkish Rug Cleaning & Restoration

Antique and vintage Turkish rugs require additional attention because age can weaken their fibers and foundation. Historic dyes may also require specialized handling.

Our specialists evaluate antique Turkish rugs individually and select cleaning and restoration techniques appropriate for their age, materials, construction, and condition.

Given the work involved to restore this rug, this is a rug that should not be sent to any rug store, but should go to Jafri Rug restoration as the weavers are specifically skilled to repair these threadbare rugs and understand the motifs and match the wool dye lot for dye lot. The artistry will maintain the antiquity of the rug and will not make it look newly made and will also raise the value of the rug.

Jafri Rug restoration will do the following:

1. Assessment and Inspection:

Condition Check: Inspect the rug thoroughly for signs of wear, including fraying edges, missing or damaged knots, stains, or fading. This is essential to assess the scope of restoration work needed.

Fabric Type: Identify the materials used (wool, silk, etc.) to ensure the correct restoration techniques and materials are used.

Color Matching: Turkish Kilims often feature vibrant and intricate color schemes. Color matching is important for any repairs to ensure the restoration blends seamlessly with the original.

2. Cleaning:

Gentle Cleaning: Before restoration, the rug is cleaned to remove dirt and stains. This is typically done by hand or machine using organic olive oil shampoo foam to cleanse the rug and techniques that preserve the integrity of the fibers.

Drying: After cleaning, the rug must be carefully dried to prevent any damage or shrinkage.

3. Repairing Damaged Areas:

Reweaving/Knots: If there are missing or damaged knots, the missing sections will be re-woven by hand. Skilled weavers use the same knotting technique that was used in the original rug to ensure consistency.

Fringe Repair: If the fringe is damaged or missing, it can be reattached or replaced using matching fibers.

Edge Repair: The rug’s edges may become frayed over time. A repair may involve re-binding the edges to prevent further unraveling.

4. Color Restoration:

If the rug has areas with faded or discolored sections, dyes matching the original colors may be applied to restore the vibrancy. This requires careful attention to detail to blend the colors seamlessly.

For this rug Jafri Rugs will do the following:

The Jafri Oriental Rugs Cleaning, Fringe implant and binding process is a meticulous restoration technique used to repair handmade Persian, Oriental, antique, wool, and silk rugs that have suffered damage from wear, holes, tears, moths, or fire. The goal is to restore the rug while preserving its original design, structure, and value.

1. Comprehensive Inspection

Every rug begins with a detailed assessment where technicians examine:

  • Hole and tear locations
  • Missing pile or knots
  • Loose or unraveling edges
  • Fiber type (wool, silk, or cotton)
  • Knot style and density
  • Dye colors and overall condition

This inspection determines the best restoration method while protecting the rug's authenticity.

2. Professional Cleaning

Before reweaving begins, the rug is thoroughly hand washed to remove dirt, dust, and oils that can interfere with repairs. Cleaning also reveals hidden damage that may require restoration.

3. Foundation Reconstruction

If the rug's foundation has been damaged:

  • Broken warp threads are replaced.
  • Missing weft threads are reconstructed.
  • The rug's structural integrity is restored before any decorative work begins.

This step provides the framework needed for long-lasting repairs.

4. Hand Reweaving

Experienced artisans carefully recreate the damaged area by:

  • Matching the original knot type (Persian or Turkish)
  • Matching knot density
  • Using wool or silk that closely matches the original fibers
  • Reproducing intricate borders, floral motifs, medallions, and other patterns knot by knot

The objective is to make the repair blend as seamlessly as possible with the surrounding design.

5. Color Matching and Restoration

When necessary, restoration specialists:

  • Match original vegetable or chrome dye colors
  • Hand-dye replacement fibers when required
  • Blend repaired areas with the existing rug to maintain a consistent appearance

Color restoration is performed carefully to preserve the rug's original character while minimizing visible repairs.

6. Fringe and Edge Restoration

If damage extends to the rug's ends:

  • Missing or worn fringe is repaired or replaced.
  • Side bindings are reinforced or rebuilt.
  • Rug edges are secured to prevent future unraveling.

These repairs improve both the rug's appearance and its structural stability.

7. Shearing and Grooming

Once reweaving is complete:

  • The repaired pile is trimmed to match the surrounding height.
  • Fibers are brushed in the natural pile direction.
  • The repaired area is blended for a consistent texture and finish.

8. Final Inspection

Before returning the rug, technicians verify:

  • Accurate pattern reproduction
  • Secure knots and foundation
  • Proper color matching
  • Smooth, even pile height
  • Overall craftsmanship and structural integrity

The finished rug is carefully inspected to ensure the restoration meets professional quality standards.

Reweaving is one of the most specialized forms of rug restoration. By rebuilding damaged areas knot by knot using matching materials and traditional weaving techniques, Jafri Oriental Rugs aims to preserve the beauty, durability, and value of handmade Persian and Oriental rugs while extending their usable life.

A Persian Sumac of this quality is threadbare and quite valuable. The rug in its former condition was destroyed in several areas. The fringe and binding was tearing apart and the field was also worn.

The first image shows the rug in very poor condition with fringe and binding work required as it was fraying. The second image shows how this Persian Sumac rug has been restored to its original condition with fringe and binding that comports to the design and era such as adding tea stained fringe implants to the rug as that was the proper fringe that was of that circa 1900 period. Additionally Jafri Rug restoration sheared this rug to even out the wool on the pile of the rug and added binding that prevents the wool from unraveling any further into the field of the rug and  Jafri Rug restoration did the following work:

-Reweaving worn areas where warp and weft is showing

-Refringing as the fringe is torn off

-Rebinding as the binding is unraveling

-Vegetable dyes are fading

-Field of the rug is also showing unevenness in the wool pile

Given the age and value of the rug, this is a rug that should not be sent to any rug store, but should go to Jafri Rug restoration as the weavers are specifically skilled to repair these threadbare rugs and understand the motifs and match the wool dye lot for dye lot.
