Viscose is a different type of fiber than wool and silk
Viscose rugs (sometimes called art silk or rayon rugs) are beautiful but very delicate, so they’re cleaned quite differently from wool or synthetic rugs.
This rug had a great deal of odor which requires Jafri Rugs to deodorize this rug as well as its normal organic wash
The rug is gently vacuumed with low suction
No beater bars or aggressive brushing
This removes grit that can cause fiber damage during cleaning
Cleaners test for:
Color bleeding
Fiber distortion
Water sensitivity
Viscose reacts badly to water, so this step is critical
Because viscose weakens when wet, professionals usually use:
Dry compound cleaning (absorbent powder worked gently into the rug and vacuumed out)
Solvent-based cleaning (minimal moisture, fast drying)
Encapsulation or foam cleaning (very controlled moisture)
Stains are treated individually using specialized viscose-safe solutions
Gentle blotting only—never scrubbing
Water-based stains are especially tricky and often cannot be fully removed
Rugs are dried flat, with airflow
No hanging or heat
Fibers are groomed carefully once dry

I bless the day I found Mr Jafri. As one who has collected rugs for 50 years, I both learned about their value and origins and had them beautifully cleaned and repaired.
Very beautiful rugs there, would have been a difficult decision. Only needed a rug pad this time. When we're in the market again, this is where we'll go. Pete, Delmar, NY
We serve customers in New York, Connecticut, Vermont, & Massachusetts.
