This is an example where the rug is in a distressed state and has been destroyed by foot traffic and moths.

Additionally, the rug is densely knotted but the fringe and binding was
completely worn and unraveling. The field of the rug was worn and therefore required enormous work such as reweaving...however given the fringe and
binding act like a frame of the rug if they continued to unravel further they
would eat into the field of the rug causing it to become prohibitively
expensive to fix.
